Circus

 Circus:

I, like Robert Lax know the circus brings magic and wonder into the eye of the beholder. He traveled with family circuses around Canada and wrote of his experiences after in form of poetry. How romantical, as Ann-e would say. Circus for me has been my glue, my sanity, my process. It has provided a safe community that no one could take from me. It is just mine (and all the other circus freaks and beauties).

Circus has stretched me and challenged me. It has grown me, and softened me. At the same time it has made me so fucking strong. Circus I adore you and honor you. My journey with embodied movement, healing through the body’s wisdom has been a beautiful one. Starting as a child around nature, plants, and tumbling. In my free time, cartwheels, summersaults, back bends, climbing trees and dangling feet, hanging from knees and pullups to beat the boys at school in arm wrestling, which I did! 😊

That evolved into handstands against my door anytime I was in my room. Always doing my creative processing on the floor. Painting, drawing, crafting, praying, meditating, yoga. For a a little while I tried teaching myself to breakdance. In college i discovered Yoga, my practice has only grown and evolved. Never stopped. Then aerial arts found me. Thirteen years ago. From the ground up I rise, so with hand and headstands. I need to practice my balance. I want to move into the improv or choreo dance movement world. It feels like where I belong. My body is toned and flexible, I am light and nimble, I can fly and base. I have grace, and strength. Wildness and soft edges. My heart is tender and wild. My back is strong, and my front is soft.

New connections are bringing fun, youthfulness, memories, loads of pats on the back for me and my healing my childhood trauma journey. Inspired by new connections I went to my first audition. Like a real life, people behind a panel and you read or perform for them kind of audition. I was nervous. Excited, eager, hopeful.

Alive. That’s how I felt. Alive. After about an hour of warm up, group work, dance, choreo and play, I felt so on purpose, like my body just wanted to keep going, playing. Listening, daring, jumping, leaping. All emotions welcomed to be manifested through movement. Expressing consent for other humans, sharing love, strength and passion as we tumbled through the room on mats across the floor. Playing ever playing with each other. That’s what it felt like. Just a bunch of kids playing. Drawing each other out. Helping express. Welcoming all parts. No words. Just movement. Just bodies, throbbing together. Weaving threads like that of a 12 thread steel rope used for rigging. Strong. Safe.

Changing the world together.
